A New Design Coming 2017

The San Luis Obispo Library will be closing for upgrades October 3, 2016. During the closure hold pickups and returns will be available from a temporary library in the small conference room on the first floor. The Library will reopen Saturday,March 4th 2017.

 About this Branch

The San Luis Obispo Library is located in the heart of the beautiful downtown historic district, directly across from City Hall. The two story library features two reading patios, Reference and Local History collections, large print and Spanish language collections, and a large collection of movies, music on CD, and books on CD. The library has study rooms, a computer lab, and a bookstore sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

The Children's Department includes a Spanish language collection, a Lego construction table and interactive games, and a large collection of children's books, music and movies. The Teen Zone features teen books and magazines, including an extensive Manga collection.

The San Luis Obispo Library serves as Regional Library for the Coastal Region of the county library system. The library partners with the San Luis Obispo County Genealogical Society Library and Literacy for Life (formerly the San Luis Obispo Literacy Council), both located on the 2nd floor of the library.

  • Friends Corner is operated by the San Luis Obispo Friends of the Library and offers magazines and books for great prices.
  • Local History Department is a unique collection of San Luis Obispo history books, documents and film.
  • Reference Department features microfilm collections and reader-printers, specialized research services, large reference book collection, and research computer.
  • Reading Patios are spaces for library users to read, use computers or relax and enjoy the beautiful view. Patios are located in the front of the library and on the 2nd floor.
