Brief History
The San Luis Obispo County Library was established in 1919 under authority of the County Free Library Act. The Library is a department of the County of San Luis Obispo, operating under the authority of the County Board of Supervisors. Today the library provides service to residents of 6 of the 7 incorporated cities and the unincorporated areas of San Luis Obispo County, a service area that extends over 3,000 square miles. The Library offers circulation of books, magazines, newspapers, government publications, and other special publications, and also offers downloadable media of all types.
